Feadship has announced that it will be attending the Cannes International Yacht and Boat Show for the first time.

The world’s leading luxury motoryacht builder will feature one of its latest launches, the 39-meter Go. After wowing the crowds in Cannes from 8 to 13 September, Go will then join other larger yachts in the Feadship fleet at the Monaco show.
The third yacht in Feadship’s pioneering SL39 modular concept, Go is every inch a customized superyacht above the waterline. Her archetypal Feadship exterior profile has been designed by De Voogt Naval Architects, while the relatively modern interior comes from FPA Architects. The designers have taken the way modern owners enjoy cruising as
their template, creating a yacht that is characterized by bright spaces, wide relaxation areas
and a variety of places to make the most of an ‘outdoor-in’ lifestyle.

Dutch shipyard Feadship builds some of the world’s most coveted superyachts; in addition to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich’s Ecstesea, the likes of Malcolm Forbes, Paul Allen and King Khalid of Saudi Arabia all commissioned luxurious vessels from them.

Now the shipyard has launched its newest, largest and most expensive superyacht ever, the 288-ft. Musashi (above) built for an unnamed billionaire, leading to speculation that one of the boldfaced names on its client roster decided it was time for an upgrade. Our money is on Paul Allen, who recently listed his 303-ft. superyacht Tatoosh for sale at $160 million meaning he’s probably in the market for a replacement (he still has the Octopus).
The Musashi’s massive steel hull was constructed by Feadship’s dedicated hull-building facility in Papendrecht, Netherlands, and was delivered to Makkum for outfitting. Read the rest of this entry »

As a sport, yachting may be all about harnessing the power of the wind, but for most superyachts, that’s where ecofriendliness ends.

Typically, these 45-meter-plus boats guzzle huge amounts of fuel while their owners host lavish parties that require high-powered amenities like air conditioning and fancy sound systems. But the green agenda has begun to reach even these behemoths of the sea, with marine architects and designers seeking ever more innovative ways to apply conservation technologies to their vessels. Since Lehman Brothers sank a year ago, marinas have been awash in mothballed luxury yachts waiting for the financial tides to turn, while canceled orders have left many boat builders struggling.
Now, at suitably trimmed prices and amid signs of renewed buoyancy in capital markets, « there’s an optimistic feel about evolution in the short term, at least on the pre-owned brokerage market as well as on the charter market, » says Laurent Perignon, director of marketing at the high-end yacht broker Camper & Nicholsons International. Still, Mr. Perignon said, « we remain cautious » about the timing of a market recovery.
Yet, if plain vanilla luxury boat builders have felt buffeted, the mood at the top end of the market is very different – as reflected in the unveiling by leading luxury brands of two new yachts at the start of the Monaco Yacht Show this week. Read the rest of this entry »
