Burgess signs Cakewalk for Sale as Joint Central Agents

Upon delivery last year, the 85.6m (281ft) CAKEWALK captured the attention of the superyacht world as one of the most spectacular new yachts to hit the water in 2010 and is now offered for sale for the first time.

Built at Derecktor Shipyard to exacting standards, under the close supervision of a highly experienced and knowledgeable owner’s team, CAKEWALK is a remarkable vessel in all respects. Her flowing lines and accentuated curves were created by Tim Heywood Design, lending the yacht fabulous presence on the water and making her instantly recognisable.

CAKEWALK’s classically styled interior was designed by Elizabeth Dalton and despite her volume and grandeur, retains an atmosphere of both intimacy and warmth. A grand sweeping spiral staircase and an elevator links four deck levels.

All guest accommodation is situated on the main deck, comprising: 4 cabins with king size beds, 2 cabins with two double beds and 1 staff/supernumery cabin with twin bunk beds. Biggest Sail Battens Ever Made delivered to Mirabella V

A set of battens, the largest of which measures 24m, was delivered by rigging specialists Marine Results to the megasized Mirabella V.

Picture it – one long batten, the length of the average mast on a 46 foot racing yacht – and that’s long. Making a single batten 24 metres long is no mean feat, and when Marine Results was given the task of replacing the original set of battens in Mirabella’s mainsail, because they kept failing, it was a question of designing something that was tougher, more flexible, and with a longer life.

The battens are now fitted into a brand new massive 1557m² (16,760ft²) mainsail, supplied by Doyle Sails, which was used for the first time in March when Mirabella raced at the St Barths Bucket superyacht regatta.

The team at Marine Results designed the necessary specification and then called in engineers who were able to design the fabrication of the battens, numbering twelve in total (six and six spare). The battens were tubular and made of high-strength carbon fibre in an epoxy resin matrix. Because of their length they had to be transported in lengths under 12m and were then joined together on site. The diameters of the battens varied – the top batten was 72mm diameter and the bottom batten 93mm diameter.

Jon Morris of Marine Results, who led the project, commented “We believe these are the longest sail battens ever made, so it was quite a challenge to ensure that we could meet Mirabella’s brief, which quite simply stated that a tough structure was needed which was not prone to breakage. With the help of our engineering partners we have delivered to specification.”

Completed in 2004 and still the largest single-masted yacht in the world, Mirabella measures 75.22 metres (247 ft) and her mast stands 88.5 metres (292 ft) high from the water, that’s just 50ft short of the length of a premier league football pitch.

Edmiston appoints President of LVMH’s Moet Hennessey USA as New CEO

Edmiston & Company names Mark Cornell Chief Executive Office. The former Senior LVMH Executive will succeed Nicholas Edmiston who will remain Chairman of the leading brand for super-premium yachting.

Edmiston & Company, a global leader in the sale, charter, and management of super and mega yachts, announced today that Mark Cornell has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Based out of the company’s headquarters in Monaco, Cornell will oversee global business for the brand which includes locations in London, New York, Abu Dhabi, and Mexico City. Victoria Investments partners with Latvia-Based Latitude Yachts

USA-based yacht broker Victoria Investments, Inc. has just partnered with Latitude Yachts, new super-yacht yard based in Riga, Latvia. Signed during the Boat Asia Singapore 2011, the representation and engagement agreement for business brokerage services will run six-months term starting from May 12th.

The partnership was issued from decision to promoting together the recent launch of a new 88 ft luxury sailing catamaran through Megayacht Catamarans specialized in promotion of luxury maxi-catamarans. The ex-Latitude 88 « Double Deck » is now baptised the Blue Coast 88′ and will offer unprecedented level of confort, ultimate safety and ease of handling for full enjoyment of life at sea. The construction is supervised by the Latitude technical team headed by famous French naval architect and designer Jean-Jacques Coste, partner of Megayacht Catamarans since 2006.

The Blue Coast 88′ shows modern and elegant lines perfectly integrated with the impressive interior volume. She is a high class yacht, elegant and refined, made for cruising with friends and family. The Blue Coast 88′ is a four-deck sloop rigged catamaran. She has the level of comfort of a motoryacht while supplying the pleasure of a sail yacht. The performance under power is at high levels as soon as speed and long-range passage making are in concern. The total beam of the yacht is reduced to reasonable proportions in order to improve structural efforts and permit access to most marinas.

The Blue Coast 88′ is measuring 27 meters and with a beam of 12.50 meters making her incredibly spacious. Yet she is lightweight with only 75 tons. Her impressive mast is measuring no less than 35 meters providing her with an unforgettable look! The elegant exterior styling of the Blue Coast 88′ combines various technical and luxury features like hydro & aerodynamic forces, comfort, design, ergonomics, interior arrangement and safety. The aft exterior salon is a large shaded terrace with an unobstructed view over the sea. An automatic sliding door integrates exterior settee with interior arrangement into a great social gathering area. The terrace also features a big private lounge with all the necessary comfort. The aft stairs of each hull store lazarette compartments with garage and scuba diving equipment storage and offer direct access to the sea through retractable swim ladder. A hydraulic platform receiving the tender is situated aft between the two hulls facilitating bathing, and tender and water sport operations. The forward deck gives access to the net and the manoeuvering areas. Access to the top of the nacelle is provided by going up the stairs above the forward windscreen.

Access to the flybridge is made from the aft terrace by going up the comfortable stairs on the starboard of the yacht. The helm station and hardware equipment are located forward for the ultimate control. Two sunbathing areas are located on each side of the Spa and a central dining console allows for fully enjoyment of the al-fresco dining.

The interior is built to the highest standards of comfort and luxury using lightweight yet refined materials and state-of-the-art craftsmanship. The yacht is fully equipped with high-end entertainment including flat TV screen, latest audio and video systems, wireless internet access, etc.

The Blue Coast 88′ has an efficient sail plan with a full battened mainsail and a hydraulic furling selftaking solent and yankee. The amazing 240sqm mainsail is equipped with an optional hydraulically operated furling boom. The 95sqm solent can be reduced in strong wind. A storm sail can be also added. The manually operated 290sqm gennaker provides the vessel with an outstanding power in light air.

The Blue Coast 88′ is equipped with a 35m high modulus carbon mast. The high-tech kevlar standing rigging features simplicity, lightweight, low drag and high efficiency. Mast and boom are studied in 3D using the Finite Element Analysis. The optional wing furling boom has passages on the sides to make easier sail handling.

The Blue Coast 88′ is fitted with two Cummins QSB 5.9 diesel engines of 420 HP each with a stainless steel shaft and a three blades MaxProp folding propellers. Two Kohler 25 KVA generators provide the energy onboard. The engine room also features an USCG-approved Ecomar sewage black and grey water treatment plants.

The Blue Coast 88′ is due for completion in December 2011. However, if an owner steps in at an early stage.

Latitude Yachts will be able to customize the yacht and discuss an earlier delivery date.

Karpaz Gate Marina set to Welcome Yacht Rally Ahead of Launch

Karpaz Gate Marina (KGM), the new luxury marina in northern Cyprusis, at the time of writing, approximately 90% complete and will be launched, on schedule, at the beginning of June.

Ahead of its official launch, the marina management team have announced that it will be welcoming yachts which are participating in the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) – an annual rally which involves approximately 60 sailing yachts travelling around the highlights of the Eastern Mediterranean.

The yacht owners and guests participating in the rally will be the very first official visitors to the marina. During the stopover at Karpaz Gate Marina they will be offered exclusive access to the facilities, weeks ahead of its official launch. All will be provided with designated berthing free of charge, and entertainment is being arranged including a welcoming party which will be attended by VIPs and local dignitaries.

The build of the marina is in the final stages and when complete, the marina will be the most luxurious in the eastern Mediterranean. At the current time the marina breakwaters and the main marina elements of dry dock, promenade, and marina buildings are being completed.

Karpaz Gate Marina recently ran an introductory free berth offer which has generated an unprecedented level of interest from sailing and motor-yacht owners from around the world. As a result, approximately 100 berths have now been allocated. All the winners have been informed and they will enjoy complimentary berthing privileges from until 31^st March 2012. Two hundred further berths are available at Karpaz Gate Marina with both short-term and long-term availability.

73.2m Superyacht “Laurel” now for Charter with Burgess

Luxury motor yacht “Laurel” is a mega yacht built by Delta Marine in 2006, measuring 73,20m (240′ 1″).

At the time of her launching in 2006, M/Y LAUREL was the largest yacht ever to be produced by Delta Shipyards and was also the largest yacht constructed in America since 1921.

Luxury superyacht Laurel is able to accommodate up to 12 guests in 7 beautifully appointed staterooms. Her Master cabin boasts a large king size bed, a day pantry, a study area, two private exterior terraces, two walk in wardrobes, a double shower and head. Four of the guest cabins have a similar layout with a kingsize bed and shower. The 5th guest cabin has a queen size bed and a single bed – plus a fold down Pullman as well as an ensuite with a bath and shower. Damian Sharp joins YPI Management Team

An important consequence of the recent world crisis is the increased focus owners are now placing on how efficiently their yachts are being run.

“It’s not necessarily about saving money. It’s about how owners can get more out of their yachts with the same operational expenditure – that’s an area where professional yacht management makes a huge difference.”

One of the longest serving management companies in the world, YPI Management has been specialising in all aspects of yacht management support – operational, financial, technical, class, certification, crew and insurance – for almost 40 years. Much of the Division’s success has been down to the specialist team it brings together.

Ocean Independence and Amels announce the Sale of the First Amels 180

International superyacht brokers OCEAN Independence and Dutch superyacht builder AMELS are delighted to announce the sale by OCEAN Independence broker Jeroen Minnema of the first AMELS LIMITED EDITIONS 180, designed by Tim Heywood.

Due for delivery in May 2013, the latest in the AMELS premium semi-custom range will measure 55 metres long, with a beam of 9.4 metres and a Gross Tonnage of 650 tonnes.OCEAN Independence’s Swiss-based Management Division, OCEAN Management, has also been appointed to manage the project for the Owner making this the fourth project that OCEAN Management will have run in co-operation with AMELS.

AMELS managing director Rob Luijendijk said:

“We always welcome and listen carefully to new ideas and innovations from our clients, and with this yacht our design and engineering teams have been able to accommodate all the owner’s wishes. This has resulted in a high level of customisation and new features being incorporated into the specification for this AMELS 180, and we’re delighted to be working again with OCEAN Independence and OCEAN Management on such an exciting project. With the sale of two AMELS 177s at the end of last year, followed by the AMELS 199 and now this latest AMELS 180, the yard is going to be busier than ever. This shows we really are on the right track with the LIMITED EDITIONS concept.”

Minnema commented:

“The LIMITED EDITIONS premise is to offer clients a premium semi-custom design that provides room for personalisation, yet which allows the owner to enter the project and take delivery in much less time than a fully custom-built yacht. Tim Heywood’s design for the AMELS 180 fulfilled the owner’s wishes in every respect.”

The owner has specified a number of areas and features for customisation on the AMELS 180, for example:

The Main Deck Saloon has been extended, increasing the luxury space by more than 30%.
The Owner’s Suite will be fitted with a folding balcony, while the Main Deck Saloon will be fitted with two, providing easy access to the open air.
The “wide-body” specification for the Sky Saloon will create a generous amount of light and space.
An extra large Sun Deck will also be engineered for a Touch & Go helipad above the bridge, with a maximum take-off weight of 2000Kg. The dual use helipad adds 32 square metres to the Sun Deck.
Sophisticated foldable swimming stairs will be incorporated in the swimming platform.

Since the concept was introduced in 2005, eight LIMITED EDITIONS yachts have been delivered, the most recent delivery is the AMELS 212, IMAGINE. Eleven more projects are under construction. Currently being finalised are design details for what will be the largest in the range, the 73.5 metre-long AMELS 242. At this point the LIMITED EDITIONS fleet will range from 650GT to 1700GT in gross tonnage.
