Salamanca Capital Investments has announced Salamanca’s acquisition of Barcelona Marina.

Known locally as Marina Port Vell, the Marina dominates the heart of Barcelona.Salamanca has acquired the Marina from Global Via whose parent company, FCC, is one of Spain’s largest construction companies; it is understood that FCC is in the process of disposing of a number of non-core assets.

Salamanca will work with the Spanish Port Authority to turn the Marina into Europe’s pre-eminent Super Yacht Base. Marina Port Vell will become home to some of the world’s largest privately owned yachts, with some berths catering for vessels of up to 185 metres. Read the rest of this entry »

They might as well be the winds of change blowing through the Songhees Friday.

The majestic slice of the capital’s harbour is one step closer to a transformation into the Victoria International Marina after Transport Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans ruled the project will not adversely affect the environment. Now the group behind the “mega-yacht” marina expects the federal government will grant its navigable waters permit. Once that happens it still needs some help from the province. When Anthony Terry, a British former diplomat arrived in the peaceful village of Napoule on the French Riviera eight years ago, he fell in love with its two delightful local beaches either side of a listed chateau.

Settling into semi-retirement in a house a stone’s throw from the beach, he hoped to take life easy and enjoy life by the sea.

Instead he finds himself in a struggle reminiscent of the battles in the Riviera by the writer Graham Greene against the rapacious mayor of Nice turning the area into a concrete nightmare. Mourjan Marinas IGY, the luxury developer and manager of marinas and yachting destinations based in Dubai, has allied with the Moroccan investment firm Libra Capital to start the master plan for an exclusive waterfront project in the southwest of Morocco.

This project would  include hotels, golf courses, retail and dining outlets, and a marina with a substantial number of berths for mega yachts.

Mourjan Marinas IGY will lead marine environmental studies, commercial viability, and feasibility studies ahead of construction of the Riviera Waterfront project. A former Communist-era naval base in east Europe could soon become the most important new European superyacht hub in decades.

Porto Montenegro marina is being developed in the Bay of Kotor in southern Montenegro, the tiny former-Yugoslav nation, a region with the lowest GDP in Europe.

It is the brainchild of multi-millionaire gold miner Peter Munk who hopes his plans will turn this area into a glamorous and economically thriving hotspot to rival the likes of Monaco, Cannes and Portofino.

To this end, the bay, with its picturesque mountains, is undergoing a transformation that will leave it decorated with luxury penthouses, upmarket shopping boulevards and the capacity to hold 600 yachts in its harbor. Read the rest of this entry »
