Dubois Naval Architects are delighted to announce a wonderful array of awards wins at Saturday night’s 2011 World Superyacht Ceremony.

Dubois Naval Architects is extremely proud that both Zafira and Imagine have won their categories in the World Superyacht Awards, presented by Boat International Media, with Zefira also achieving Sailing Yacht of the Year!

Kokomo received the Judges Special Award in the 45m+ category for technical innovation & excellence and both Twizzle and Lady B received Judge’s Comendations.

Imagine have a very special place in the heart of Dubois Naval Architects team. The owner of ‘little’ Imagine, launched in 1993, so loved the boat that he wanted many of the same features incorporated into the considerably larger new Imagine, LOA 44m. The result has appealed to many and clearly also rang a sweet note with the judges.

Imagine was built by Alloy Yachts, as was the earlier yacht and her victory is a clear message that the design, conceived all those years ago, has stood the test of time and ingredients, combined with the cumulative and uniquely large bank of knowledge from the intervening period makes the latest Imagine a very special boat indeed. She is the 21st Dubois design to be built by Alloy Yachts and thereby marks a special milestone.

Zefira is the 7th Dubois design to be built by Fitzroy Yachts and signifies a new appealing development both above and below decks. At the time of her launch, this 49.7m fast cruising sloop was the largest sloop Dubois Naval Architects has designed without a flybridge. She is of aluminium construction with a bulb keel and a maximum beam of 9.95m. Zefira’s lines, silhouette and technical performance are something to be admired. Zefira was designed for Italian owners who are wonderfully passionate and artistic. Their valued input was an integral part of this design. Comfort below was essential, as was the detail and finish. This was provided by the inimitable skills of Remi Tessier. Both the interior and exterior are equally spectacular. This elegant yacht will continue to look contemporary long into her life, well standing the test of time.

Congratulations must go to the owners and of course to the shipyards and all those involved with these award-winning yachts.

The 9th Annual American Superyacht Forum is just a Week Away

The biggest event in the American superyacht industry’s calendar, the American Superyacht Forum, is now just two weeks away.

The three-day forum, which will be held at the Hilton Marina in Fort Lauderdale, runs from 16 to 18 May.

Details for the event, which is hosted by The Yacht Report Group and organised by Superyacht Events, are now almost finalised with more speakers confirmed in the last few days. Jose Bared, of Jones Boat Yard in Miami, will speak on lessons learnt over his previous decade in the industry – from how he weathered the storms of the economic downturn to the changes he’d like to see happen. Jose’s keynote speech, ‘Owners investing and operating in the industry’ is on Day One. Other names added are Kristina Hebert of Ward’s Marine Electric and Michael Moore of Moore & Co who join the opening keynote session ‘Writing A Business Plan For America’. For Day Two’s panel of senior representatives from major American shipyards, Paul Engle from Bradford Marine, Gavin Higgins from Derecktor and Todd Roberts of Marine Group Boat Works are the latest additions. This shipyard panel will host a dynamic Questions and Answer debate to explore the future of new build and refit in the USA.

Applications for delegate places are set to reach the 250 mark. From around the globe delegates of every sector in the industry, from captains, to designers, brokers and lawyers will meet in Fort Lauderale to discuss and develop the future of the American superyacht industry. Through keynote speeches, workshops and networking events, they will effectively establish how the industry needs to change to be more profitable and compete with markets such as Europe. In true Fort Lauderdale style, the three-day forum will close with a four-hour deep-sea sport fishing tournament. A relaxed barbecue is followed by prizes donated by Chelsea Clock for the winning competitors.

Organisers are also planning for two superyachts to be on display at the forum. Further details are yet to be announced.

The 19th Boat Asia returns to Marina at Keppel Bay, 12-15 May

The 19th edition of Boat Asia, Asia’s largest boat show, returns to Marina at Keppel Bay from 12-15 May 2011.

This year marks many firsts; not only will Boat Asia be expanded to The Promontory@Marina Bay, there will also be the first-ever city sailing match race, named BAY Challenge, which will be held from 14 – 15 May 2011 at Marina Bay.

The Professional Yachtsmen’s Association to host a Workshop at the Antibes Yacht Show – 7 April 2011

The Professional Yachtsmen’s Association is hosting a workshop sponsored by bluewater and JPMA in the conference tent at the Antibes Yacht Show at 1530 on the 7th of April 2011.

Introduction: Why change things?

There has long been a feeling within the large yacht industry that the crew members with the most direct contact with Yacht owners and guests (and therefore the greatest potential to enhance or ruin the experience that they have on their yacht), have the least training. The yacht interior crews, despite being neglected, have contributed hugely to the recent success of the Superyacht Industry. The well developed programmes of training that exist now to support the deck and engineering departments make this neglect seem all the more regrettable.

A New Structure.

This is a discussion document to encourage feedback from the large yacht industry with a view to establishing a training structure for Yacht Hospitality crews along the same lines as those which exist for other departments. This training will not be mandatory but it is hoped that by setting an industry standard for training providers to work to, they will better serve the needs of the yachting fleet. Instead of dozens of separate courses, with different titles, different lengths, different content and different standards, we propose that there be one unified structure, managed by the Professional Yachtsmen’s Association and kept relevant to the needs of our industry by regular consultation with our members.

Poros Charter Show 2011 to feature over 80 Luxury Yachts

Poros Charter Yacht Show organized by the Hellenic Professional Yacht Owners Association (HPYOA) and the Hellenic Yacht Brokers Association (HYBA) and operates under the aegis of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) and Municipality of the island of Poros is due to take place from the 7th of May through to 12th of May 2011.

Like every year, the Poros Charter Yacht Show will be hosted on the greek island Poros, just off the shores of Athens.

This is probably the most successful event in Eastern Mediterranean and one of the top charter events in the world. Over 80 luxury yachts are being presented to international professionals represented by some of the most acclaimed charter brokers in this industry.

The aim of the Charter Yacht Show – Poros 2011 (Greece) is to showcase a large array of well maintained yachts and highly trained crews.

Asia Superyacht Conference To Provide Essential Intelligence on Superyacht Industry

Informa Yacht Group have today released its detailed programme for the 3rd Asia Superyacht Conference to be held in Singapore in April this year, running alongside Asia first ever superyacht dedicated show, the Singapore Yacht Show.

“When I travel around the world and attend some of the major shows in the world, its clear just how little people know about what is going on in the Asia-Pacific region” commented conference Chairman Simon Turner. He added “I am sure that one of the reasons for this is the sheer size of our region and the massive geographical area it covers. We roughly define it as being from the Seychelles in the West (the Seychelles being just one of new destinations being covered at this year’s conference) to Hawaii in the East, and from Vladivostok in the North and New Zealand in the South. This means that it is very difficult for anyone to get a proper understanding of the market by travelling around all these areas. The conference gives a unique insight into what is going on around the region and enables delegates to meet key contacts all in one place at one time. This year, with the added benefit of the new Singapore Yacht Show following straight on from the conference gives delegates an unprecedented opportunity to really understand this region.”

Presentations this year will come from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, China, India, Seychelles, Australia, Philippines, Hong Kong, UAE, Indonesia, The Netherlands and the UK.

Conference partners the Superyacht Singapore Association will once again provide the regions’ only detailed data and analysis on superyacht ownership and visiting traffic. “Given the size of the region and difficulties in collating data it’s a real challenge to get a proper picture of the size of the market in Asia” commented SSA Executive Director Jean-Jacques Lavigne. He continued “our work over the last 3 years has brought us many surprises with the overall market size, while being relatively small in global terms, it is much bigger than we ever thought. Importantly, owners are continuing to upgrade their yachts and bring new yachts into the region.” The data provided by the SSA is never made public and organisations which are not members of the SSA can only get to see this data while at the conference.

In addition to the superb agenda of speakers and interactive discussions are the essential social functions bringing many hours of networking for delegates. The event kicks off on Wednesday 6th April with the now high in demand pre conference networking drinks reception sponsored by Sevenstar Yacht Transport. This planned two hour reception usually ends up running long into the night as delegates make new collaborations before the conference even begins.

On Thursday evening delegates will be treated to a new VIP event in collaboration with the Singapore Yacht Show, as a flotilla of the region’s leading yachts will perform in a “Yacht Parade” just off Sentosa Island. Delegates will watch the proceedings from a special platform just opposite one of Singapore’s new casino and leisure developments.

Asia Superyacht Conference To Tackle Piracy Issues

While the situation in the Gulf of Aden is clearly having an impact on superyachts wishing to transit the Suez canal, what is not well understood is the impact this has on other regions and the level of real piracy in other parts of the world.

With recent incidents heightening the problems caused by piracy in the Gulf of Aden, the 3rd Asia Superyacht conference will dedicate a major part of the proceedings to enable yacht owners, captains, shipping companies and brokers to fully understand the real extent of the problem posed to superyachts around the world. ClubSwan Caribbean Rendezvous 2011 – 14th – 19th March 2011

Crystal clear waters, fresh trade winds, white sand beaches and beaming sunshine are guarantees at the ClubSwan Caribbean Rendezvous.

Now is the time of year when sailors from the U.S. and Europe plan their trips to the Caribbean to participate in one or more of the popular island regattas traditionally held there every Spring. One such event is the ClubSwan Caribbean Rendezvous, 14th – 19th March 2011, which has an offering that goes beyond just beach parties and jump-up bands. This Rendezvous guarantees exceptional racing by virtue of its dependable trade winds and, even more important, a professional race management team. The week-long event indulges the competitive while offering families a wealth of options for vacation fun in the idyllic setting of the British Virgin Islands.

Since the first ClubSwan Caribbean Rendezvous in 2002, the Rendezvous in the British Virgin Islands has become one of the most influential events in Nautor’s Swan’s sailing calendar, now well known for its distinctive camaraderie between owners and excellent sailing. The Rendezvous fleet will sail around the spectacular British Virgin Islands taking in the outstanding scenery and natural ambience the area is famous for. Among the highlights of the Rendezvous are the spectacular courses that thread through Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda and Peter Island.

The British Virgin Islands is one of the classic Caribbean yacht charter vacation areas and a great place for sailing vacations, known by many as the ‘yachting capital of the Caribbean.’ The British Virgin Islands is actually around 50 volcanic islands, islets and cays that provide extensive sailing areas and is the perfect setting for this unique gathering of some of the world’s finest sailing yachts.

The Dubois Cup will take place at Porto Cervo in Costa Smeralda – 4th to 6th of June 2011

The Dubois Cup will take place at Porto Cervo in Costa Smeralda, Northern Sardinia from 4th to 6th of June 2011.

The inaugural Dubois Cup took place in Palma in 2007 following a conversation between Ed Dubois and a client who suggested the idea of a regatta solely for Dubois yachts. As with many things, the idea grew and the Dubois Cup was established – an opportunity for owners to enjoy their boats, to put them through their paces and to meet other Dubois owners and friends.

The second Dubois Cup took place in 2009 at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Sardinia and plans are now in place for the third Dubois Cup which will again take place at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) from 4th – 6th June, 2011.

This exciting regatta bring together many Dubois-designed yachts, owners, crew, industry associates and media alike. The event immediately preceeds the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta with one racing rest-day inbetween.

As in previous years, there will be two days of racing and the evening events will include the owners and guests’ dinner and a prize-giving party following the close of racing on the 6th.

The are currently eight yachts confirmed for participation. Included in the line-up are three of the most prominent launches from the last year, Kokomo (58.4m), Twizzle (57.5m), and Zefira (49.7m).

This invitation-only event is the only Superyacht event to combine racing and a full social programme with a commitment to raising money for charity.
