YCO sponsors Chris Foot in record breaking South Pole expedition
YCO, the yacht company, is proud to be a lead sponsor to Chris Foot in his attempt to be the first person ever to successfully travel totally without support or assistance and on foot to the South Pole and back again.
The gruelling route begins at Hercules inlet, over 700 miles from the pole and Chris will have to carry or drag all his own equipment and supplies for the duration of this epic 1400 mile round trip.
An ex-Royal Marine, Chris Foot is raising awareness and funds for the charity Combat Stress, which was started to assist former military personnel to confront and overcome the often severe psychological stress and trauma caused by their experiences in combat. As the world remembers this November those who have suffered in so many conflicts, it is not only an inspiring challenge but also an incredibly worthy cause.
On behalf of Chris and Combat Stress, YCO would like to encourage as many of our friends and colleagues in the industry to contribute to this incredible fundraising effort. Now that the cost of the expedition has been covered by corporate sponsorship, any additionally sponsored funds will go directly to Combat Stress.
YCO would like to wish Chris Foot the best of luck as he embarks on his record breaking South Pole expedition this week.

about Chris Foot
In 1996 Chris joined the Royal Marines and marked the beginning of a truly impressive and demanding military career. In his pursuit of excellence and bold ambitions to operate at the most elite level possible, he became the youngest serving member of the Special Air Service (SAS) at 21, in January 2000 after passing the arduous selection process.
The next 10 years witnessed an intense period of deployments on operations globally enhancing his skills and capabilities to constantly optimize performance. A specialist operator in Mountain Troop made it possible for Chris to spend a huge amount of time in cold weather regions acquiring advanced climbing, mountaineering and ski touring experience. The love of this environment paved the way for a natural progression into the polar expeditionary world when Chris left the military in 2009.
about Combat Stress
Combat Stress delivers dedicated treatment and support to ex-Service men and women with conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety disorders. The services are free of charge to the Veteran and since 2005 there has been a 72% increase in demand for the specialist services caring for Veterans’ mental health.
The charity was founded in May 1919, just after the First World War. The original name was the Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare Society and opened their first recuperative home in 1920 on Putney Hill in South West London. When the charity formed, it was ahead of its time. The prevailing attitude to mental welfare was, by today’s standards, primitive, even barbaric. Much has changed since then. With a current caseload of more than 4,300 Veterans, the charity has never been busier.
