Working on a yacht is an exciting and adventurous job. Yacht recruitment agencies provide dedicated, professional teams in order to match the right crew with the right yacht.

They give advice on salary structures, contracts, insurances and qualifications. Prospective crew members are interviewed and reference checked thoroughly before being recommended for potential employment.
Yacht Captain: The captain of a yacht has to be the right person as he is primarily responsible for the safety of the passengers, crew and the yacht. Apart from the management of crew, yacht captains have many other responsibilities from budget control to yard periods and repairs to the yacht. Qualifications for a captain vary quite extensively depending on the yacht.
Chief Engineers/2nd Engineers: An experienced, adaptable and competent engineer is essential for the running of any successful yacht. A good all round knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering is required alongside a ‘hands on’ approach to the job, particularly when working as a sole engineer where you are single-handed responsible for all systems on-board. Larger yachts are manned by a team of engineers ranging anywhere from a Chief and Second Engineer in the 50m-60m range, up to an extensive Engine Room Department that would include specialist roles such as ETO and AV/IT technicians.
Mate/Bosun/Deckhand: The mate manages work of the deck and other departments. The mate is primarily responsible for watch-keeping duties on the ship but their responsibilities may also extend to paperwork, maneuvering of the yacht and ISM procedures.
Steward/ess/ Chief Stew/Purser: Being a Steward/ess, Chief Stewardess or Purser will demand a high variety of skills which include, but not limited to: service, housekeeping and laundry. Initially, you are likely to work as a Stewardess learning essential skills from your Chief or 2nd Steward/ess. One of the most important requirements is to be flexible in your approach, as you will work long hours undertaking a mix of responsibilities.
Chef /Sous Chef/Crew Cook and Cook: Working as a Chef on a yacht is a challenging position, however, depending upon the size of the yacht, there could be a Sous Chef and even a Cook to assist you. As Chef you are responsible for provisioning, preparation and final presentation of all meals for the guests and crew alike. Flexibility and excellent organisational skills will ensure their food is as memorable as their time on-board.
